Each island of The Bahamas is unique but none boast the amenities of Grand Bahama.

Education

Within the city of Freeport there are numerous primary schools and highschools administered by the Ministry of Education. The Bahamas offers post-secondary education through college and vocational education. The Lucayan International School is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer both their Primary Years and Diploma programs. The Northern Campus of The College of The Bahamas (COB) is situated in Freeport. COB offers degrees in Accounting, Business Management, Mathematics, Education and English.

Healthcare

The Bahamas has an established Government run medical program with one main hospital in Grand Bahama, the Rand Memorial, which has an emergency center, pediatric ward and a full time surgical staff. Smaller private Medical Clinics also provide first class health care.

Sports

Bahamians love sports and with Olympic Gold medalists and professional NFL football and NBA basketball players take great pride in their sporting achievements. The Bahamas official sport is Cricket although golf is one of the most popular games with visitors.

Activities

Besides numerous beach activities Grand Bahama also has other amenities. There are three national parks maintained by the Bahamas National Trust. Grand Bahama boasts internationally famous diving facilities with one of the largest dive schools in the region. Unexso offers numerous dive programs as well as a number of interactive dolphin experiences. Bone Fishing clubs and numerous deep sea fishing tournaments provide great opportunities for exciting water sports.

Marinas

Grand Bahama boasts a number of marinas including the centrally located Port Lucaya Marina. This full-service marina provides all of the facilities you would expect from a world-class location, including accommodation for yachts up to 190', fuel and pump out facilities with full Port of Entry services. The marina is located immediately adjacent to the Westin and Sheraton at Our Lucaya Beach and Golf Resort and the Isle of Capri Casino.

A number of major banks have branches in Grand Bahama.

Opening hours are 9:30am-3pm Monday to Thursday, and on Friday they are open until 5pm.
